Upgrading outdated audio and visual equipment is always a challenge, so what did Chivas do?
HIAV worked with Chivas to look at a medium to long-term strategy for their equipment. How it is used today will differ to how it is used in 5 years time so why not plan for the future?
At Chivas, the Boardroom is used by the Executives and Directors mainly for video conferencing. The room had an older projector and Tandberg VC that was being replaced as planned works but needed to have something that could cater for the crossover period. They also wanted to get rid of the mess of cables and introduce sharing content using mobile devices like phones and tablets as well as laptops.
Changing the projector to a NEC 80" full HD LED display screen was the first step at futureproofing the room. Not only was the image improved with brighter and clearer images but the reliability and cost of ownership was improved dramatically. No more expensive projector lamps and hello to a display that should be good for well over 10 years and will probably be replaced because of aesthetics rather than failure.
The next consideration is connectivity and Extron switcher provides the control over what is shown and upscales to full HD resolution.
A Barco ClickShare also provides wireless connectivity and shows up to 4 devices on the screen at the same time. The second output is mirrored and feeds the video conferencing content share feature keeping it simple to use.
The whole room is controlled using an Apple iPad and sitting on an iRoom table docking station that intelligently charges to protect the iPad battery.
